Coppersmith Ryan Stuart of Demmons Roofing Inc. in Portland attaches custom-cut copper plates to the steeple dome of the First Congregational Church in North Yarmouth on Friday, part of an extensive renovation of the building.

Stuart, of South Portland, places another plate on the dome, which was removed from the steeple for the job. The copper plates replace an aluminum covering that had adorned the dome in the past, Stuart said. It will be lifted back atop the steeple sometime in the next two weeks, he added.
