The geothermal HVAC systems installed by W.H. Demmons saved York County $69,000 in the first year
The York County Courthouse is an historic landmark, build around 1850. The original goal of the project was to upgrade their existing heating and ventilating system. An optional geothermal system was also proposed, and accepted. The upgrade to a geothermal system also would allow the court house to experience air conditioning for the first time. Annual savings were estimated to be $25,000.

A Geothermal system is three times more efficient than conventional systems
However, the installation of the geothermal system significantly reduced the consumption of oil, and the county was able to reduce its energy expense to that of FY 2005-2006
