Thomas College Athletic Center

Artist's Sketch

The New 38,000 square-foot field house is the centerpiece of Thomas’s 70-acre campus and features a three-court surface with synthetic flooring, jogging track, comprehensive fitness center, multipurpose aerobic exercise room, men’s and women’s locker rooms, training room, administrative offices and equipment storage space.  This new facility tripled the number of varsity, club, and intramural teams that can simultaneously practice or hold games.

Plan View The three-court area of the athletic center which totals approximately 26,000 ft2 with the peak at 35 feet in height is heated and ventilated using air rotation technology, and a unique ductwork system that follows the sloped roof line of the structure.  This system with high supply air and low returns, maintains design temperatures from the floor to the ceiling.  This reduces energy consumption because it avoids temperature stratification.

The comprehensive fitness center which totals approximately 12,000 ft2 on two floor is heated, cooled, and ventilated.  This HVAC design incorporates high efficiency oil fired Pensotti Boilers, York air handling equipment with air cooled condensers, RenewAire energy recovery ventilators, and radiant floor heat.  Multiple Zones of control using a DDC System provide maximum comfort and energy savings.
